Last Christmas

Last Christmas is the holiday movie that I wanted to love, but couldn't fully engross myself into its world to love. This film is based off of George Michael's hit Christmas song, "Last Christmas," so prepare for lots of George Michael music throughout the film. While Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, and Emma Thompson all give great performances, the relationships between the characters never entirely develop by the end of the movie. Although the concept of the movie is super cute, it isn't executed as well as it could be and is a little too choppy, and at times quite awkward. While it's not perfect by any means, it's still a cute feel-good holiday movie. It's definitely cliche but the the twist towards the end may throw you for a loop. I accidentally read a spoiler a few days before seeing it, and I definitely suggest NOT looking up anything about the film because the spoiler kind of ruins the movie. The middle of the movie was a little boring, but the end will lift anyone's spirits, put you in the Christmas mood, and remind you to always "look up." While Last Christmas did not enter into my top holiday movies and I probably won't be seeing it again in theaters, I do recommend going to see it for a girl's night out to get you in the holiday spirit.
